GETTING STARTED
Once you have determined that you want your title produced into an Audiobook, you still have a couple more decisions to make. We will walk you through the step-by-step process, answer a few questions and help you determine what your exact needs are.
Getting started is as simple as 1, 2, 3…
1. Answer a few basic questions – (By phone, Zoom or email)
– What is the length of your book?
– What is the genre of your book, who is your audience, and what “voice” and style of narration and music does your book call for?
– Do you want a Standard Audiobook or an Enhanced Audiobook?
– Will you be needing any Graphic Design services? (For your audiobook or otherwise?)
– Do you want an Audio Excerpt, Video Excerpt or Book Trailer for your website as a marketing tool?
2. Authorize the production by sending the following –
– Final manuscript of your book (emailed pdf works fine), or Kindle version
– Signed copy of our simple and basic contract along with a deposit to
get started.
3. Give us your creative input, eager anticipation and patience –
Audiobook production is a detailed and creative process. Collaboration and synergy are part of what help make it fun and magical! We invite you to be as involved as you desire, to ensure that your book is heard in your “voice” and that the final product best represents you and your story.
When the first draft of the Audiobook is finished, we will send it to you in digital format for your final approval. Once you have made any corrections or changes and signed off on final approval, we then make the changes and corrections and send you the final product both in digital format and physical copies.

THE PRODUCTION PROCESS (The Details and What to Expect)
- Decide on whether you want a narrator, or want to read it yourself.
- Sign and return contract and deposit.
- (If needed) We will send you a studio-quality microphone for you to use for your narrating your audiobook(s).
- (If you are narrating as the author) We will coach you in the recording process, narration, mic placement, recording techniques and industry standard levels, file formats, etc. (Everything you need to know)
- As you record the “raw” files, you format them as mp3s and upload them to the Google Drive link that we will provide you.
- On this end, we will edit and master the files to industry standards and place in a “Finished files” folder for you to review and approve.
- We will create the audiobook artwork, (industry standard – 2,400 x 2,400 pixels)
- Upon your approval, we will upload the finished files and audiobook artwork to ACX, (Amazon’s Audio Creator’s Exchange for Audible), and wait for ACX to approve and release on Audible. (Usually within 10 to 14 days)
- As soon as ACX approves and releases your audiobook, we upload the approved files and audiobook cover to Findaway Vocies, who then release to their 40+ partners, including Spotify, Apple, Google, Chirp, Scribd, Storytel, and a host of libraries as well.
- Along the way, we also setup a conversation and brainstorming session regarding marketing plans, Book Trailer, etc.
- Welcome to the family – we celebrate your audiobook and first sale, and are available for any other help and advice we can offer!
DOES SKYDANCE MOUNTAIN TAKE ANY ROYALTIES?
No. SkyDance Mountain is not interested in taking any royalties of your book. You, will maintain the complete audio rights to your title.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?
Depending on the length of your Audiobook, and whether or not it is in “enhanced” format, in approximately 4 to 6 weeks from the time we receive your signed contract and deposit, you will receive your master files in a digital download format, (mp3, m4a, wav, etc.). The physical copies included in your specific package will be mailed to you as well. (Turnaround time for large quantity orders placed through SkyDance Mountain varies depending on many factors, including amount, packaging, special instructions, etc.)

Our Standard Audiobook Rate starts around $300 per finished hour* (pfh = final length of the audiobook). Depending upon complexity of the project, a 50k word book would generally range between $1,500-$1,850. This price includes - recording, narration, editing and mastering, finished audiobook artwork for Audible, (created from your original book artwork), and uploading your files to ACX/Audible.
*(Finished hours refers to the length of the completed audiobook. ACX uses an average of 9,300 words per finished hour (PFH). Therefore, a 60,000 word novel divided by 9,300 words PFH = 6.5 hours, which is the length of the completed audiobook).
